Pulaski, NY

In October, my dad took me up to Pulaski, NY for the first time. Sunday, we arrived late and went fishing for a couple hours before dinner. Monday, we hooked up but lost it after a couple minutes. Tuesday, it was our last day. The traction on my wader boots had almost fallen off. We went to the Upper Fly Zone, where it was Catch & Release only, as a last effort. When we got there fish started rising in front of us, which drove me crazy.

After about a half hour, I was talking to my dad and noticed my line was next to me, almost on the bank. I started reeling it in and noticed something about 20 feet up the river from me. As I reeled the line in the 'thing' that was next to me cannoned out into the middle of the river. I felt my line tense up so I set the hook and the fight was on. After about a 15 minute fight, I finally got it close enough for my dad to net it.

It was my first king salmon and I caught it on a St. Croix Spey rod. My dad said it weighed about 25 pounds and it was 37" long. Unfortunately, we had to release it. I could hardly carry it down to the river (it was only like 10' to get there) 😂. It was AWESOME.
